The Ideal Roofing Process

Whether it�s to fix a small leak or tear off an old roof to make way for a new one, professional roofers adhere to a certain process. While specific steps may vary depending on the requirements of a project, all roofing processes generally follow the same flow.

So what is the ideal roofing process like?

1. Schedule a Meeting. 

The ideal roofing process begins when a homeowner contacts a roofing professional for a meeting to get an evaluation of the project.

 2. Meet for Evaluation to Evaluate the Situation.

A representative from the roofing company will be sent to your home to assess the problem. Expect the inspection to be thorough as this will ensure that all possible problems are accounted for.

3. Recommendation of Solution.

  The inspector will share recommendations with you to solve any existing issues.

4. Preparation of Agreement.

  Once your roof�s assessment has been completed, your roofing contractor will later prepare a detailed estimate to outline the specifics of the project and deliver that information to you.

5. The Agreement. 

This is when the course of action, the cost of the project's materials and labor, and expected time of completion are determined. When the agreement is completed, your roofer will send it to you.  Please take your time reading this to make sure you understand the details and that the anticipated results. If there's anything about the agreement that you have an issue with or simply need clarifying, don't hesitate to discuss this with your contractor. 

6. Customer Approves Agreement.

  When you approve the agreement, Bill Ragan Roofing & Associates will be in touch with you to schedule an appointment to install your project.

7. The Preparation.

Before the actual roofing project commences, your contractor will make the necessary preparations to ensure everything is ready. Actual preparations will depend on the job at hand but typically you can expect material and equipment deliveries and pools and gardens covered up. It�s also possible that some of your belongings will have to be moved to make it easier for workers to move around so this time period will be allotted for that as well. All the preparations that you and your contractor should carry out should be outlined as well in your agreement.

8. The Pre-Installation. 

This stage in the process is mostly geared towards removing old roofing material to make way for the new one. With old roofing material gone, your contractor can take a closer look at your roof�s existing structure to check for rot and damage. Once the old roof (or the affected portion) is removed, a fresh layer of underlayment is laid over the wood deck.

9. The Installation.

Once everything is in place, your contractor can now get started on installing your new roof.  To minimize problems, shingle installationusually starts at the eaves and end at the ridges. Hand-driven nails are also more precisely placed than air-driven ones. The installation is completed by the addition of flashing in all pertinent areas.

10. The Cleanup. 

Your roofing contractor won�t leave a mess after installing your new roof. Aside from clearing all debris, all protective covering laid out on your property will also be removed to restore your area to the way it was before your roofing project began.  We even take a magnet around your yard, including shrubs and bushes, to ensure that all nails have been retrieved and disposed of properly.

11. The Final Inspection.

To wrap up the process, your roofing contractor should accompany you to make a final inspection of the finished product, offering you maintenance tips as well to help you care for your new roof.
